Element # 3: Intellect

(1 min Read)

There is one subtle faculty in human beings which is known by 2 names indicating the different functions. It is known as mind when it feels the emotions. When it thinks for decision making, it is referred to as intellect. In common parlance, the mind and intellect are known as the heart and the head respectively.

Intellect is a subtler instrument just like the mind, when compared to element # 1, which was discussed in my previous blogs. While the mind is subjected to likes and dislikes, Intellect discriminates between right and wrong. The intellectual abilities can be associated with innovation, creativity, imagination, discovery and visualization.

Our life’s journey will be purposeful when the Intellect acts as a ‘driver’ and governs the mind.

Our life’s journey will be meaningless when the mind acts according to likes and dislikes, ignoring the voice of the intellect.

Assess yourself in situations when your mind was powerful than intellect and vice versa. Check the differences in the outcomes. FRIDAY GYAAN is available in Amazon in both ebook and paperback versions – Visit Website http://www.authorshankar.com)

Element # 2: Mind

There is one subtle faculty in human beings which is referred to by 2 names indicating the different functions. It is known as mind when it feels the emotions. When it thinks for decision making, it is referred to as intellect. In common parlance, the mind and intellect are known as the heart and the head respectively.

Mind is a subtler instrument, when compared to element # 1, which was discussed in my previous blog. It deals with the various emotions like love, compassion, kindness, anger, jealousy, hatred, greed, empathy and so on. Emotion is a form of energy and is neutral. It can be constructive or destructive depending on the way we harness them.

Mind can be constructive when:

1. we express an emotion like gratitude for building external relationships

2. we suppress an emotion like anger to gain internal maturity

Mind can be destructive when:

  1. we suppress an emotion like gratitude to weaken external relationships

2. we express an emotion like anger to exhibit our internal immaturity

Are you harnessing the mental emotions constructively or destructively? Do you think there is a scope for improvement? FRIDAY GYAAN is available in Amazon in both ebook and paperback versions – Visit Website http://www.authorshankar.com)

Element # 1: Body

(2 minute Read)

In Gyaan Nugget # 93, Dispassion is referred to as an attribute in which one engages fully in any task dynamically yet remains unaffected by the results of any action. A dispassionate person is one who gives 100% in whatever role he or she plays irrespective of the time and place. Vairagya is the synonym for dispassion in the ancient Indian language of Sanskrit.

Imagine you are responsible for the operation and maintenance of an electron microscope in a Research Laboratory. Since it is a high-priced instrument, you will be displaying lot of care while handling it and doing your best in controlling the input parameters. Maintenance aspects are meticulously taken care of. Our body is the ultimate instrument of perception in this world.

Since the body is a priceless one, let us ponder about 3 pertinent queries:

  1. What is our level of dispassion while using this instrument?

2. Are we controlling the food and lifestyle habits, as we should?

3. Are we focused more on our efforts or on the results?

Reflect on your daily habits and check whether you are using, misusing or abusing the body. What is the small change which you want to commit for your body every month? FRIDAY GYAAN is available in Amazon in both ebook and paperback versions – Visit Website http://www.authorshankar.com)

Deep Diving into Dispassion

(2 minute Read)

Last week, when I was chatting with one of my friends, who takes enormous interest in driving the feedback from the published blogs. She has formed an informal group wherein they review a specific Gyaan Nugget and observe it’s relevance in their experiences. She was hinting that it would be great if I could deep dive into one and run it as a weekly series so that it will give more time and space for the readers to reflect.

I have chosen the Gyaan Nugget # 93, which talks about dispassion with the help of a movie screen metaphor. There are 6 elements in our lives, which we need to be dispassionate about, if we wish to master the art of living. They are:

  1. Body
  2. Mind
  3. Intellect
  4. Family
  5. Possession
  6. Profession

The first 3 elements are delicate instruments at our disposal, which needs to be utilized appropriately to interact with the next 3 elements, which represent the outer world. Watch this space for the next 6 weeks. FRIDAY GYAAN is available in Amazon in both ebook and paperback versions – Visit Website http://www.authorshankar.com)
